Why the Villanova MSA?
The use of information as an asset is fast becoming an essential business strategy. Core knowledge in management, finance and accounting are critical, but recent technological advances are challenging leaders to add a new skill set to their teams — the ability to capture data, organize it, analyze it and use it to make better business decisions in the context of specific functional areas. The MSA degree is designed to teach these critical skills and develop analytics professionals prepared to assist organizations in developing and sustaining a unique competitive advantage.
Is the Villanova MSA program accredited?
Yes, all programs offered by the Villanova School of Business are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the professional accrediting body for business schools.
When can I start the MSA program?
The MSA is an online program that allows the flexibility of starting in the fall or spring.
Is the online MSA a full or part-time program?
The online MSA is a part-time program designed for working professionals.
How long will it take to complete the MSA program?
The MSA can be completed in six semesters (24 months). Students follow a prescribed matriculation path in order to complete the degree in this time period.
Is there a campus-based option to complete the MSA?
No, the MSA is only offered in an online format.
Does the MSA have any residency requirements?
No. The MSA degree will be offered entirely online through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous class sessions. Small classes will allow faculty to individually support each student and help foster personal connections among peers.
How are courses in the MSA program delivered?
The MSA program is designed to provide flexibility to busy working professionals while letting students stay fully engaged with faculty and their classmates. Courses are primarily delivered in an asynchronous environment using a combination of tools, such as recorded presentations, discussion forums, and interactive case studies, to let students learn according to their own schedule. However, select synchronous elements, including online discussion sessions (all recorded so you can watch them on your own schedule) and virtual office hours, are also incorporated into each course.
What are the technology requirements?
All students are required to have a Windows PC with Excel 2010 or later. Throughout the program, faculty members will employ a variety of different software packages, some of which do not work on a MAC computer. In order to avoid issues with conflicting security requirements and administrative settings, it is also highly recommended that students do not use a work computer.
How many credits do I need to complete to receive my MSA?
To fulfill the requirements of the MSA curriculum, candidates must complete 36 credits.
Can any courses be waived?
No, courses cannot be waived based on undergraduate coursework.
What does the Villanova MSA program look for in a qualified candidate?
The ideal MSA candidate has a technical, quantitative background that has been demonstrated in a professional and/or academic environment. Particular emphasis during the admissions process will be placed on performance in courses such as Statistics, Research Analysis and Business Intelligence. Responsibilities in roles which require data analysis, data mining, statistical analysis and interpretation are indicators of preparedness for success in Villanova’s MSA program.
What are the admissions requirements for the MSA program?
Prospective students will be required to complete an online application, inclusive of two essays and a professional resume, and submit two letters of recommendation and an official transcript from each institution attended. The GMAT or GRE is optional, but strongly recommended for individuals with a non-technical background or an undergraduate GPA lower than 3.0. In addition, international applicants must submit a TOEFL score and a transcript evaluation and participate in an admissions interview.
What are the application deadlines for the MSA program?
The application deadline for Fall 2020 is July 15th. All application documents must be received by the deadline.
Are there any required prerequisites needed for the MSA program?
Yes. All students must have completed an undergraduate or graduate course in statistics (with a minimum grade of B) prior to matriculation into the MSA program.
Is a standardized test required to apply for the program?
The GMAT or GRE is not required for admission into the program. However, under the following circumstances the GMAT or GRE is strongly recommended:
- Candidates with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of under a 3.0.
- Candidates with less than 2 years of post-graduate work experience.
- Candidates who have been out of school for more than 10 years and do not have technical work experience.
Are scholarships available for the program?
There are a select number of merit-based scholarships available. In order to qualify, a candidate must have taken the GMAT or GRE. There are no additional forms to fill out; these opportunities will be evaluated during the admissions process.

What is the tuition for the program?
Cost Per Credit: $1,400 Total Tuition: $50,400 for the 2020-2021 academic year. In addition, the university assesses a general fee each semester. Financial aid in the form of student loans is available. Please note that costs and fees are subject to change. Fixed tuition rates are available for the online MSA.
Are there any scholarships available?
Multiple scholarships are available to qualified MSA candidates for Fall 2020.
